Mandelic acid is a great skin perfecting acid with tons of benefits like:

  • Being suitable for darker skin tones

  • Fighting dark spots and uneven skin tone

  • Turning over dead skin cells

  • Reducing fungal acne

  • Getting rid of skin texture

And so much more.

Plus, natural fruit extract in the formula can help with dark spots and texture as well.

Suitable for Darker Skin Tones

Stronger acids like glycolic acid and lactic acid are more likely to cause irritation and potentially hyperpigmentation for individuals with dark skin tones.

On the other hand, mandelic acid is gentle and unlikely to cause irritation or hyperpigmentation.

Promotes Chemical Exfoliation

Mandelic acid is a chemical exfoliant that promotes cell turnover and helps slough off the top layer of your skin.

Additionally, it’s somewhat lipophilic like salicylic acid. Therefore, it can help flush out the oil and dead skin cells stuck in your pores before they become pimples.

Thanks to this process, mandelic acid can be especially useful for people with acne prone skin.

Improves Skin Texture and Tone

Mandelic acid is great to fight stubborn skin texture and even out your skin tone through chemical exfoliation.

Anti-Fungal Properties

Perhaps surprisingly, mandelic acid benefits include anti-fungal properties and can be useful to treat Malassezia and fungal acne.

Suitable for Sensitive Skin

One of the best advantages of mandelic acid is that it is gentle enough for people with sensitive skin.

While mandelic is one of the gentlest alpha hydroxy acids, it can still cause irritation if used incorrectly.

As with any active ingredient, be sure to patch test prior to applying the product all over your face.

Plus, you should start slow and increase frequency as your skin develops tolerance for it. You can start with 3 nights per week and work your way up to 6 as your body allows.

Summary: should you try Naturium Mandelic Topical Acid 12%?

Naturium Topical Acids

Yes! Whether you’re dealing with anything from acne or dull skin, you should definitely try out this product from Naturium.

I’m a huge fan of mandelic in general, and this product combines it with natural fruit extracts for the perfect exfoliant to add into your routine.

That being said, mandelic is not as good at controlling redness and rosacea as azelaic acid. Therefore, if you have rosacea, this might not be the product for you.
