Both spellings of “skincare” and “skin care” are generally acceptable, though they have different uses.

The adjectival form of the phrase, skincare, is used when referring to a brand or set of products. For example, you may see the phrases “skincare line” or “skincare products” used in advertisements.

On the other hand, the two word phrase is used when referring to someone taking care of their own skin. For example, you may hear that someone say they are doing skin care at night. by applying a face mask.

This article will explain everything you need to know about whether skincare is one word or two words.

Skin care can be spelled as one word or two, and both are acceptable.

For example, you may see the phrases “daily skincare routine” and “skin care routine” used in the same article. These two phrases have the same meaning, and both are grammatically correct.

Skincare can be used in writing as one word or two. You may see beauty products referred to as skincare products.

Both the single word form and the two words are acceptable. That being said, the one word form of the term “skincare” is not preferred as much as two words per the American Academy of Dermatology Association.

While the American Academy of Dermatology Associates lists “skin care” as the preferred spelling, you will see both forms used in marketing and advertising.

For example, the brand Paula’s Choice refers to their products as a skincare line, not a “skin care line”.

Further, the act of doing skin care in cosmetics refers to cleansing and moisturizing your skin. These acts involve skincare products such as cleansers and moisturizers.

While there is a slight difference between using skin care as a noun and skincare as an adjective, both forms are generally used interchangeably.

For better or worse, many two word phrases are given this same treatment. For example, someone may say they are going to do hair care by washing their hair in the shower. To do this, they would use haircare products such as shampoo and conditioner.

Either way, single words or double words, make sure you’re taking your skincare routine seriously as it’s the best way to prevent premature aging!
