A CeraVe skin care routine for oily skin is ideal for those new to skincare or just those looking to stay budget friendly.
There are 3 basic steps for a good skincare routine:
- Cleansing
- Moisturizing
- SPF (morning)
Keep reading to learn how you can take care of your oily skin at home and preserve your skin’s natural protective barrier.
This post covers everything you need to know for a CeraVe skin care regimen and what order to apply CeraVe products for oily skin types.
Cleansing
CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser

CeraVe
Foaming Facial Cleanser
The first step in any skincare regimen is cleansing. We cleanse to remove dirt and makeup from the surface of your skin. Plus, including this in your CeraVe face wash routine removes excess oil!
You should do this as part of your daily skincare routine.
Who is it good for?
If you have oily skin, you have to be careful to remove excess oil without totally stripping your skin’s natural moisture.
Therefore, I suggest trying this foaming gel cleanser. You can use this one twice a day since it doesn’t have any harsh actives like salicylic acid.
The CeraVe foaming cleanser will cleanse your skin thoroughly without leaving you feeling too dry afterwards. It’s also non-comedogenic, so it won’t clog pores and contribute to breakouts.
Who is it bad for?
If you have dry skin or normal skin, this cleanser may be too stripping for your skin type or skin barrier.
Even if you have oily skin, you may find that this doesn’t work well for your morning skincare routine and suits you better at night.
Cleanser Alternatives

CeraVe
Renewing SA Cleanser
If you also struggle with pimples or blackheads, the CeraVe Renewing SA Cleanser might be better for you.
This cleanser contains salicylic acid which exfoliates your skin and unclog pores. It also contains hyaluronic acid and other good skin-loving ingredients!
How to Cleanse Your Face
To use the CeraVe Foaming Cleanser or Renewing SA Cleanser, follow these steps:
- Wet your face with cool or lukewarm water
- Apply a small amount of cleanser to your fingertips
- Gentle massage it into your skin for up to a minute
- Let air dry slightly before moving onto moisturizing
Moisturizing
The key part of all skincare routines is moisturizing to maintain your skin’s protective barrier! In fact, you may prefer to use a tinted moisturizer over makeup like foundation with a proper skin care routine.
CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion

CeraVe
Daily Moisturizing Lotion
With oily skin, you have to choose a lightweight formula that won’t leave a heavy or sticky residue.
I love using the CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion for all skin types. It’s so light, making it easy to apply and absorb. Plus, it’s also non-comedogenic!
Key Ingredients
Developed with dermatologists, this lotion is formulated with some great ingredients:
- Essential ceramides: nourish and calm the skin
- Hyaluronic acid: provides hydration
These are great ingredients to include in your daily skincare.
How to use it
Simply apply a small amount to your damp face and neck after cleansing. Gently massage it into your skin using circular motions until it’s fully absorbed.
Can you use it as a body moisturizer?
Yes! You can also use this lotion on your body to protect your skin’s barrier.
The convenience is one of the reasons I love it!
SPF (Sunscreen)
While controversial, sun protection can be a good step in any skincare routine to prevent wrinkles and hyperpigmentation.
CeraVe Mineral SPF 30

CeraVe
Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30
I like the CeraVe Mineral Sunscreen.
\It’s formulated with physical UV filters like zinc and titanium that block UVA and UVB. It’s also formulated with ceramides to help repair and restore the skin’s natural barrier!
However, it’s worth noting that this sunscreen might leave a slight white cast on your skin.
A white cast is common with mineral sunscreens. For most people, the white cast will disappear as the product absorbs into the skin.
However, if you have medium skin, you may prefer the CeraVe Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 Face Sheer Tint. This sunscreen has a tan shade to it that helps to blend into the skin, reducing the appearance of a white cast.
Unfortunately, mineral sunscreens may not work for everyone, particularly those with darker skin tones. It’s important to choose a sunscreen that works well with your individual skin type and tone.
To use the CeraVe Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen, apply about two fingers worth to your face and neck after moisturizing. Make sure to apply it at least 15 minutes before going outside to give it time to absorb into the skin.

In Conclusion
By following a consistent CeraVe oily skin routine, you can help prevent breakouts and keep your skin healthy.
Cleansing, moisturizing, and applying SPF every day are important steps in any skincare routine. While I love CeraVe, any products you like that fit the 3 steps are fine.
It’s most important to choose products that are tailored to your individual skin type and concerns. Of course, you also have to be consistent with your routine for the best results!
